Overtaking on a motorway

Overtaking on motorways.

In the video below we demonstrate how to overtake safely on motorways.

Only overtake if it's safe and legal.

Keep a safe distance from the vehicle that you wish to overtake, at least a two second gap in dry conditions.

It's important that you can overtake without breaking the speed limit or causing another vehicle to slow down or swerve.

Check your mirrors and your blind spot before changing lanes. Signal when it's safe and then gently steer out to the right. Once you've finished overtaking move back to the left lane when it's safe. Check your mirrors, signal but don't cut in front of the other vehicle that you've overtaken.

It's recommended that if you don't feel confident with motorways then maybe think about booking a driving lesson with your local driving instructor.
