Show Me, Tell Me Quiz

At the start of your driving test you'll be asked one 'tell me' question verbally, and during the drive one 'show me' question. Both are taken from the DVSA's official list of 21 vehicle safety questions.

This free quiz tests your knowledge of the full list. Aim to answer every question correctly before your test. For the full questions and answers, see our Show Me, Tell Me questions page.

What do the Show Me, Tell Me questions cover?

There are 21 questions on the DVSA list covering vehicle safety checks across the following areas:

Brakes - checking the brakes work before starting a journey and checking the brake fluid level.

Tyres - checking tread depth, tyre pressure and general condition.

Engine oil - checking the oil level using the dipstick.

Coolant - checking the engine coolant level.

Windscreen washer - how to wash the front and rear windows.

Lights - checking headlights, rear lights, brake lights and indicators are working.

Steering - checking for a problem with the power-assisted steering before moving off.

Horn - checking the horn is working.

Demisters - operating the front and rear windscreen demisters.

What happens if you get one wrong?

Whether you get one or both questions wrong, it counts as just one minor (driver) fault in total.

You can still pass with up to 15 minor faults overall, so a wrong answer here does not automatically mean failure. However, knowing all 21 questions is the safest approach - use this quiz to find any gaps.

Mock driving test videos are also available to support your preparation.
